The Seattle Seahawks were able to defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the second time in franchise history. But that was then and this is now.
And now ... the team is losing some key players in free agency.
Among those gone are Kenneth Walker, as he's signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
So the Seahawks are in need of running back help now more than ever, because in addition to the departure of Super Bowl MVP Walker, Zach Charbonnet still does not have a timetable for his return from the torn ACL that he suffered in the divisional round of the playoffs.
The Green Bay Packers didn't tender running back Emanuel Wilson, deeming him not worthy of that one-year, $3.52 million offer.
Maybe that's an indictment of what he can do.
But the Seahawks obviously believe - or hope? - otherwise.
The Seahawks are signing Wilson to a one-year deal worth up to $2.1 million, per NFL Network.
Wilson (5-`10, 226) last season had a 107-yard game and had another game in which he gained 82 yards.
But ... he's no Walker. And he's no Charbonnet.
There is no guarantee that Wilson, 26 - who came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2023 - will step in and be RB1 for the Seahawks immediately, but he will absolutely help the champs recover from the departure of their star running back.
Or at least that's the hope of a champion in need.
