The New York Jets have traded special-teamer Irv Charles to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick.
What's the attraction?
On the surface, Charles can be billed as a "6-4 receiver,'' which sounds intriguing.
But in reality?
Charles, 29, doesn't have a target in his two seasons in New York, let alone a catch.
He signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and then made team’s 53-man roster in 2023, when he launched his way into playing time on special teams ...
And did it well.
In the two seasons of 2023 and 2024, Pro Football Focus graded him as the Jets' best special-teamer, and a top-10 performer in the NFL.
But in Week 13 of the 2024 season, he tore his ACL, causing him to miss the entirety of the 2025 season with the Jets.
Is is possible the Seahawks see him as something more than a special-teamer? That's unlikely. But a "conditional seventh-round pick'' is literally the very least that can be offered in a deal.
If Charles is healthy and can play even a little bit? Seattle GM John Schneider will have added a little piece on the Seahawks' hoped-for climb back to the Super Bowl.
