Every draft, teams try to get the best possible selection, but what if the franchise did the worst thing possible?
The Seattle Seahawks' needs entering the NFL Draft are crystal clear, and most feel that, even with only four selections, the franchise can address most of them.
Running back, corner, and edge runner are the three main roster weaknesses for general manager John Schneider to fill, and with mock drafts coming out thick and fast, most have the franchise going in one of those directions in the first round.
But what if the franchise didn't?
What if the Seahawks overlooked running back, corner, and edge and went in a completely different direction?
Well, in a fun exercise, that is exactly what CBS Sports' Garrett Podell has done in his latest mock draft. Podell makes each selection the worst pick, frustrating the fan base.
And when it comes to Seattle, it's Texas A&M's KC Concepcion who is selected.
"Quarterback Sam Darnold struggled to hit his intended targets deep downfield in the Super Bowl, so Seattle tries to make that a little easier by drafting Texas A&M speedster KC Concepcion," Podell wrote.
"Sure, edge rusher, cornerback and running back are bigger needs, but you can do what you want when you're the defending champs."
On face value, it does look like the pick of Concepcion is a little left-field, based on the needs at corner, edge, and running back.
But if we delve a little deeper into the receiver room and what that currently looks like, it might not be the "worst" idea to take a receiver.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Rasheed Shahid, an aging Cooper Kupp, Tory Horton, and Jake Bobo make up Sam Darnold's weaponry.
Could Brian Fleury do with another weapon?
Shahid is more of a home-run threat every now and then, Kupp is aging, while Horton and Bobo could be seen as bit-part players.
A yards-after-the-catch monster, Concepcion could be a nice foil to Smith-Njigba in the passing game. An elite route-runner, with a veteran quarterback like Darnold, Concepcion might be very productive in his rookie season.
Yes, there are more pressing needs roster-wise, and if the Seahawks don't take a running back, pass rusher, or corner, it will be a bit of a letdown. But if Concepcion is taken, would it be the worst pick?
I'm not so sure.
