Just because it's obvious doesn't mean it's not news.
The Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks are already moving on in preparing for the future ...
A future that obviously includes two of the NFL's brightest stars.
And contractually? It's just about time for the franchise to reward Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon by securing them via a pair of major decisions.
Both Smith-Njigba and Witherspoon earned Pro Bowl selections last year and are now All-Pros, with the wideout JSN also becoming the NFL’s 2025 Offensive Player of the Year.
By virtue of the fact that the two 2023 first-round picks are entering Year 4 of their deals, they are now extension-eligible.
And it's a no-brainer to get them locked up at some point.
In 2025, Smith-Njigba appeared in all 17 games for the Seahawks and caught 119 of 163 targets for 1,793 yards and 10 TDs.rds.
In 2025, Witherspoon appeared in 12 games for the Seahawks and recorded 72 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, one fumble recovery and seven passes defended.
Witherspoon could push for $30 million as one of the top-paid defenders in the game.
Smith-Njigba projects as possibly a $40 million APY receiver; he's recently suggested he deserves to be the highest-paid receiver ever.
“I’m really not too pressed right now to get it done,” said Smith-Njigba, who currently earns $3.6 million annually under his $14.4 million contract. “I know my time is coming, and when we get it done, it’s going to be a great deal. God’s timing is perfect timing, so whenever that may come, we’ll be ready for it. I believe I deserve to be the highest paid in my position. Just what I give to the game and the community, I give it my all, and I think that’s worth a lot more.”
Ultimately, Seattle’s front office faces a delicate balancing act: rewarding its homegrown superstars as market-setters while preserving the financial flexibility that built their championship roster in the first place.
