

It will be impossible to get through Media week leading up to Super Bowl LX without endless reminders of the last time the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks met in the big dance. The infamous interception by rookie Malcolm Butler that sealed the win for the Pats has been, and will be, brought up countless times already. However, not a single member of the Seahawks was on the roster for that Super Bowl loss in 2015. But it’s hard not to see the comparisons of this year’s squad to that iconic defense that spelled their championship run.
The physicality, confidence, and domination of the “Legion of Boom” that included Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Bobby Wagner and Kam Chancellor, is quite reminiscent of how Seattle’s unit is playing this season under second-year coach Mike Macdonald. It’s certainly a compliment to draw regular comparisons to that imposing squad. But the 2025 Seahawks are looking to forge their own legacy: “The Dark Side.” Defensive tackle Leonard Williams explained how the name stuck with this unit and was in line with Macdonald’s philosophy at Super Bowl LX Media Day.

The idea is that they play a suffocating style that included a few shutouts, and they head into the Super Bowl hoping to lean on that and rattle New England quarterback Drake Maye in a way Tom Brady never could have been. But when they take that major stage, they hope to leave their mark past a new calling card.
