Aaron Rodgers made his first comments about his future with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday during a conversation with Pat McAfee.
The future Hall of Famer said he hasn't decided whether he will play another season with the Steelers or retire from the NFL.
Rodgers has spoken with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy about playing next season. McCarthy coached Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers. The two won Super Bowl XLV against the Steelers.
"Free agency starts in a week. ... I've talked to (Steelers coach) Mike (McCarthy), I've talked to (Steelers general manager) Omar (Khan). There's been no deadline that's been put in front of me," Rodgers said during a Wednesday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. "There's no contract offer or anything. So there's nothing I'm having to debate between. I'm a free agent. Again, I'm enjoying my time with my wife and enjoying this part of the offseason. I think there's conversations to be had down the line. But right now, I'm not... There hasn't been any progressive conversations."
Rodgers finished with 3,322 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2025. He completed 65.7% of his passes.
The Steelers lost to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the 2026 NFL playoffs at home. After Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach, Rodgers and superstar defender T.J. Watt cried, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.
Rodgers is open to playing for McCarthy again.
"I love Mike, and Mike and I have kept in contact over the years," Rodgers said. "I've had conversations with Omar. I think Omar enjoyed having me there. I think the guys had a positive response to our time together. But again, there hasn't been any deadline set on me, there hasn't been any contract floated in front of me for me to, like, 'Well, we're giving you to March 8 to make a decision on this contract.' There's been nothing to that respect. … Interested in what the conversations will be, but there hasn't been any progression when it comes to that."
It will be intriguing to see if Rodgers plays another season in the NFL. The four-time MVP has 527 passing touchdowns and 66,274 passing yards with the Packers, New York Jets and Steelers.
