It was obvious.
The Pittsburgh Steelers made some interesting decisions prior to their game against the Cincinnati Bengals, deciding to shake up the offensive line a bit.
Throughout the week, it didn't really feel like this was something that was going to be a great decision against an above-average Bengals team, as taking on Cincinnati in a major game and making this type of change prior to it could have brought some questions, but the Steelers responded in a perfect way, winning and showing that the offense can be one of the best in the NFL when everything is going according to plan.
A lot of that came from keeping Aaron Rodgers up and giving him time to throw the football, especially at this age.
Pittsburgh allowed two sacks, which isn't terrible, considering what we've seen in the past, but the more promising sign was that Rodgers had a decent day, throwing for nearly 300 yards with 292, as well as three touchdowns.
Perhaps what was more important, however, was the run game, as Jaylen Warren was nearly unstoppable with 127 yards on 17 carries.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Rodgers seemed very happy with what the offensive line did. However, a lot of his remarks were focused on what Warren was able to do on that side of things.
"I thought the offensive line did a really nice job," said Rodgers, per the team. "It seems Brock (Hoffman) and Max (Iheanachor) did a good job. Jaylen Warren was dynamic, absolutely dynamic, and guys made some plays down the field. Had some explosion in the offense back, especially in the run game. And then better on third down, so we had more opportunities to run the football.
"I like the fact that we did some up-tempo stuff. I thought that was good. I thought we blocked really well up front. Jaylen is so slippery back there. First guy rarely brings him down. He actually brings himself down more than the first guy.
If this run game can open up an opportunity for Rodgers to throw the football at the level we all know he can, the Steelers' offense is going to be a lot better than I anticipated, and most probably anticipated.
Again, not that Rodgers is the same guy that he was many years ago, but there is a scenario in which the Steelers can play really good football and allow him to make a bigger impact if they can do the right thing in the run game and keep him upright when he drops back.
