The Steelers QB and HC have too good of a relationship.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have to decide whether they have a chance to win a Super Bowl this season, and that decision might come much sooner than anybody expected.
If the Steelers continue to play the way they have over the first two weeks for the next couple of weeks, there's a very good chance they'll be out of playoff contention much sooner than expected.
The Steelers entered the season with questions on both sides of the football, but the offense was the bigger focus.
To say the offense has played well would be dishonest, as it could be argued it's among the worst in the NFL to start the season. It doesn't look like much will change for Pittsburgh anytime soon, either, as quarterback Aaron Rodgers just doesn't look like he has it anymore.
Rodgers, much older now, wasn't expected to be perfect, but there was hope he would be much better than this.
While it seems unlikely that Pittsburgh would bench him, it might not be as crazy as it sounds. One ESPN insider doesn't believe it will happen.
“I simply do not believe that McCarthy would bench Rodgers in his final season for Mason Rudolph, Will Howard or Drew Allar -- at least not until the Steelers are eliminated from postseason contention. These two guys reunited in Pittsburgh this year to pursue a championship together, and no matter what the rest of us think, they believe it's possible and won't give up the ghost until they have to.
“Plus, you really can't lay Sunday's performance entirely at Rodgers' feet. The Steelers need to figure out a run game and some better protection schemes if they're going to keep Rodgers upright and have a chance this season. It's just too early to sit here and predict that they won’t,” Dan Graziano wrote.
More than the Steelers' losing games matters when discussing whether Pittsburgh could bench Rodgers.
We also have to consider his relationship with head coach Mike McCarthy, as the two are great friends. Unless Rodgers says he's content with being benched and wants to ride off into the sunset during his final NFL season, it seems much more likely that he'll play, even if things go south, which they somewhat already have.
