The Pittsburgh Steelers' decision to keep four quarterbacks on their roster made sense for many reasons. There's obviously a sign that the Steelers have some level of trust in Will Howard and Allar being potential franchise quarterbacks one day.
For now, it doesn't seem like the Steelers are worried about that, but they want to make sure both are in the organization in the short and long term.
It remains uncertain who the better player is right now, as Allar and Howard really haven't done much in this league.
The most that we've seen out of both young men is playing some preseason snaps, and even then, you can't get a great feel for how guys look when it matters most.
However, former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger believes he can, saying that Howard is better now, but Allar might have more potential to be that guy in the future.
"I think Drew has a lot of upside. I think Will is better now, I think Drew has the potential to be better down the road. Watching Drew throw is beautiful. The way the ball comes off his hand, the zip he has on it, the ease that he throws with. It's fun to watch." Roethlisberger said.
Allar has some things to work on, and Roethlisberger also said so. He added that he needs to work on his touch a bit, something that we did see at Penn State. I think there are a couple of questions about Allar's ability to make certain throws because he wasn't put in a position to do so in college.
Now, with everything to revamp, there's reason to believe he can change some things up and everything will go as planned, even if it takes a couple of years.
"Drew's got a big arm and he's gonna have to learn when to use the big arm and when to back off the big arm, right? Every ball doesn't need to go through a car wash without getting wet. Have a little touch. And there's times you gotta touch, and he has it. I've seen him, even just in the limited preseason, he has touch."
