We can say a lot about the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, but a lot of the focus should be on Aaron Rodgers.
The harsh reality of any team in the NFL is that they’re typically only as good as what their quarterback does.
For Rodgers, one of the all-time greats, this season hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. There have been points throughout the year where he’s played pretty well, but he’s also dealing with an injury now and hasn’t looked good in other spots.
If there’s one downside to Rodgers throughout his career, it’s the fact that at times, he seems to want to blame teammates, coaches, and perhaps never himself.
That was the case with the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets, and it seemingly is an issue with the Steelers. For some in the media, including Chris Simms, that’s a very big issue for Rodgers and something he has to clean up.
“I don’t like some of his antics on the field,” Simms said, per Yahoo. “I don’t think it speaks to leadership. He loves to yell at everybody else. He never yells at himself. There’s no anger shown when he makes a mistake, but when someone doesn’t make the right cut at an acute angle the way he wants, then he’s pissed as hell. And yeah, I think it’s starting to unravel there in Pittsburgh.”
“To me, it’s the last thing they need right now,” Simms said. “We’ve got enough questioning them on the football field and how (expletive) they look there. Now we’re gonna go into everything with Pittsburgh, and they’ve opened up Pandora’s box.”
It’s tough to disagree with what Simms is saying in this situation.
Of course, Rodgers is given some more leeway than other players around the NFL just because of how great he is, and oftentimes, it is others doing something wrong and not him, but the current-day Rodgers makes mistakes himself.
It’ll be interesting to see if any of his attitude changes, but considering this might be one of his final seasons, if not the final one in his career, it likely won’t.
