The Cowboys' struggles are ideal.

It hasn't been a perfect start to the season for some teams in the NFL, including the Dallas Cowboys, whose secondary just isn't good enough to suggest that this team can win a Super Bowl.

Offensively, the Cowboys are very good and have proven that over the first couple of weeks of the season. Even in the Cowboys' loss to the Baltimore Ravens, it didn't have to do with what Dak Prescott did on offense.

The Cowboys took a late lead but allowed Lamar Jackson to make one pass downfield, and Dallas lost its second game of the season on a 56-yard field goal attempt with time expiring.

While that hurt the Pittsburgh Steelers because the Ravens winning games is never ideal for them to win the division, there are other ways to help the Steelers in this situation.

One is moving on from Joey Porter Jr., with the expectation that he'll be dealt in the coming days or weeks. As for a team that could trade for him, the Cowboys remain at the top of that list.

One writer recently noted that Dallas should be at the top of the list in terms of trade candidates, adding that because of how poorly they played on defense in Brazil, Porter should be a top option.

“What happened in Brazil should be one of the proverbial final straws that forces Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys front office to make a move at cornerback. It also certainly helps that Dallas has a history of swinging deals like this with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even without Porter, the Steelers have one of the league's better defenses. Dallas is also a bit desperate and might be willing to pay a bit more to get a No. 1 cornerback, especially if the Detroit Lions and New York Giants are also potentially in the mix.

“Porter can get the long-term money he wants from the Cowboys, defensive coordinator Christian Parker gets a top defensive back to pair with safety Caleb Downs, and the Steelers pick up a 2027 second-round pick and a 2028 third-round pick,” Matt Johnson wrote.

It's tough to disagree with what Johnson is saying here, even if the Cowboys have to move on from more draft compensation than they want to.

That seems to be the holdup in all of these deals, and it's tough to get a feel for what a fair trade would be for Porter, who would also have to be signed to a lucrative contract extension upon the trade, at least that's what he's looking for.
