The odds of Aaron Rodgers playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2026 keep going up.

According to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, Aaron Rodgers returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2026 is still in play.

Rodgers, who becomes a free agent in March, has spoken with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy about playing next season.

McCarthy coached Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers. The two won Super Bowl XLV against the Steelers.

A future Hall of Famer, Rodgers finished with 3,322 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2025. He completed 65.7% of his passes.

The Steelers lost to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the 2026 NFL playoffs at home. After Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach, Rodgers and T.J. Watt cried, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.

Steelers players want Rodgers to return next season, per NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN. Rodgers is 42 years old. He turns 43 in December.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers remain open to an Aaron Rodgers reunion in 2026, even though it's unlikely because of Mike Tomlin's resignation, sources told ESPN," Schefter wrote. "The Steelers players are more than open to Rodgers returning to Pittsburgh; they want the four-time league MVP back and conveyed as much to various members of the Steelers organization during their exit meetings last week, according to sources.

"Almost all Steelers players praised Rodgers during their exit interviews, and most if not all of them want the veteran quarterback to return in 2026. His support among players was universal, and those around the organization pointed out how beloved and respected Rodgers was there.

"Rodgers, 42, did not commit to retiring or returning to the Steelers during his conversations with the organization, according to sources, and wants to take time away before deciding his future."

It will be intriguing to see if Rodgers plays another season in the NFL. The four-time MVP has 527 passing touchdowns and 66,274 passing yards with the Packers, New York Jets and Steelers.

The Steelers have the 21st overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
