There was no way Jaquan Brisker was going to miss his first voluntary workout session with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Phase One of the NFL's offseason program is underway for the Pittsburgh Steelers and there was no way new safety Jaquan Brisker was going to miss it.

Brisker, who left the Chicago Bears for the Steelers this offseason, spoke about why attending voluntary workouts is important.

"Everyone is meeting the new coaches, and we are all on the same playing field there," Brisker said. "You want to give your best first impression and just showing up and being there and getting the communication, getting the scheme down, just getting familiar with the building, the players, the coaches, things like that is really important."

Brisker is one of the best safeties in the NFL. For the Bears last season, the Penn State product had one interception, eight passes defended, one sack, 52 solo tackles, one tackle for loss and three QB hits.

Brisker was born and raised in Pittsburgh, so he's excited to play for his hometown team.

"Just walking in the Pittsburgh Steelers facility and being able to have another opportunity to play football, go to meetings and things like that is just a blessing," Brisker said. "The tradition of just walking where the legends have been and every Hall of Famer, you just feel it when you walk in. When you walk past those six Super Bowl trophies, like Coach said earlier, it just gives you the chills. It's amazing just coming in to work on the first day and being able to get this thing started."

Brisker enters next season with seven career sacks, four interceptions, 21 passes defended, 214 solo tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 11 QB hits.

The Steelers lost to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round last season. Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach after a legendary run and former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was hired.

It will be fascinating to see how Pittsburgh does next season in Year 1 of the McCarthy era.
