On the latest episode of his podcast, NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN revealed when Aaron Rodgers will let the Pittsburgh Steelers know his plans for next season.
According to Schefter, Rodgers should make his decision in mid-March.
Rodgers is an unrestricted free agent. It's unknown whether the NFL legend will retire or continue playing.
Steelers GM Omar Khan told reporters at the NFL Combine that if Rodgers doesn't retire, the future Hall of Famer will be welcomed back.
"He knows how we feel and I think we know how he feels about us," Khan said. "It was a good experience for both sides. Unfortunately, we didn't reach our goals on winning the games that we wanted to win at the end, but there's a mutual respect there."
Rodgers finished with 3,322 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2025. He completed 65.7% of his passes.
The Steelers lost to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the 2026 NFL playoffs at home. After Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach, Rodgers and superstar defender T.J. Watt cried, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.
Rodgers has spoken with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy about playing next season. McCarthy coached Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers. The two won Super Bowl XLV against the Steelers.
It will be intriguing to see if Rodgers plays another season in the NFL. The four-time MVP has 527 passing touchdowns and 66,274 passing yards with the Packers, New York Jets and Steelers.
The Steelers have the 21st overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Khan knows that the team eventually needs the "next franchise guy" under center.
"We all agree that we're looking for that next franchise guy," Khan said. "We're not there yet, and we may have the guy in the roster, we don't know. We're excited to work with Will, but we know that it has to be addressed, and we're all looking for the same thing. We're just not there yet."
For what's worth, Steelers players want Rodgers to return next season. Rodgers is 42 years old. He turns 43 in December.
