Would the Pittsburgh Steelers really trade D.K. Metcalf after just one season?

An NFL trade idea where the Pittsburgh Steelers part ways with WR D.K. Metcalf after just one season has been created.

NFL writer Moe Moton of Bleacher Report proposed that the Steelers trade Metcalf to the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason.

"DK Metcalf had a disappointing first year with the Pittsburgh Steelers," Moton wrote. "He caught 59 passes for a career-low 850 yards and six touchdowns. The league suspended him for two games for 'initiating a physical confrontation with a fan' in Detroit.

"Metcalf's down year, coupled with his display of immaturity, may result in his departure following the Steelers' trade for Michael Pittman Jr. Pittsburgh could keep both, but Metcalf may want a new deal with no guaranteed money remaining on his contract. If the Steelers are hesitant to rework Metcalf's contract, they could trade him, and the Kansas City Chiefs would be a logical suitor."

The Steelers acquired Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks last offseason. Metcalf had 59 receptions last season for 850 yards and six touchdowns. The 850 receiving yards were a career low for the two-time Pro Bowler.

Pittsburgh signed Metcalf to a four-year, $132 million extension after acquiring the WR from Seattle. However, Metcalf has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract.

The Steelers acquired Michael Pittman from the Indianapolis Colts. That trade could make Metcalf expendable now.

Metcalf enters next season with 497 receptions, 7,174 receiving yards and 54 receiving touchdowns with the Seahawks and Steelers. The 28-year-old is one of the most talented wideouts in the NFL, but he drops many key passes and gets into fights all the time. Metcalf's immaturity could cost him his spot in Pittsburgh.

If the Steelers look to trade Metcalf, Moton believes the Chiefs would benefit from a trade.

"The Chiefs need a pass-catcher in his prime," Moton wrote. "Xavier Worthy is still developing, going into his third season. Travis Kelce's scoring production has been on the decline over the previous three years.

"Metcalf would add much-needed explosiveness and provide more down-to-down consistency than Worthy in the passing game. Even in an inefficient 2025 year, he would've led the Chiefs in catches and been their most dynamic offensive playmaker. If this trade happens, Metcalf would play for a third team in three years, going from Seattle to Pittsburgh and then to Kansas City."
