Could the Pittsburgh Steelers make a huge trade with the San Francisco 49ers?

A blockbuster NFL trade idea sending Mac Jones from the San Francisco 49ers to the Pittsburgh Steelers has been created.

Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports proposed the following trade idea between the 49ers and Steelers:

Steelers get: Mac Jones

49ers get: 2026 second-round pick (53rd), 2026 sixth-round pick (216th)

Jones appeared in 11 games for the 49ers last season. He put up 2,151 passing yards and 13 passing touchdowns while going 5-3.

Jones was the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent the first three years of his career with the New England Patriots. The Alabama product made the Pro Bowl as a rookie but struggled in Years 2 and 3.

After one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024, Jones signed with the 49ers in the offseason of 2025. San Francisco gave Jones a two-year, $8.4 million contract.

In 63 NFL games with the Patriots, Jaguars and 49ers, Jones has 12,741 passing yards and 67 passing touchdowns.

Remember, Jones going to the Steelers only needs to happen if Aaron Rodgers doesn't come back. The NFL legend has spoken with Mike McCarthy about playing next season.

McCarthy coached Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers and the two won a Super Bowl together. However, Rodgers and McCarthy reportedly had a falling out before McCarthy was fired in 2018.

It appears time has healed those feelings, as Rodgers told Pat McAfee that he's open to playing for McCarthy again.

"I love Mike, and Mike and I have kept in contact over the years," Rodgers said. "I've had conversations with Omar. I think Omar enjoyed having me there. I think the guys had a positive response to our time together. But again, there hasn't been any deadline set on me, there hasn't been any contract floated in front of me for me to, like, 'Well, we're giving you to March 8 to make a decision on this contract.' There's been nothing to that respect. … Interested in what the conversations will be, but there hasn't been any progression when it comes to that."

A future Hall of Famer, Rodgers finished with 3,322 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions last season. He completed 65.7% of his passes.

It will be fascinating to see if Rodgers plays another season in the NFL. The four-time MVP has 527 passing touchdowns and 66,274 passing yards with the Packers, New York Jets and Steelers.

Rodgers won his lone Super Bowl during the 2010 season. Ironically, the Packers beat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
