NFL Trade Proposal Sends 2-Time Pro Bowler to Pittsburgh Steelers cover image

A blockbuster NFL trade proposal has the Pittsburgh Steelers acquiring a two-time Pro Bowler.

A massive NFL trade proposal sending a two-time Pro Bowler from the NFC to the Pittsburgh Steelers has been created.

NFL writer Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report proposed that the Steelers trade for Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, who is expected to be traded this offseason.

Steelers Get: QB Kyler Murray

Cardinals Get: 2026 7th-round pick, conditional 2027 5th-round pick

Aaron Rodgers becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. If he chooses to retire from the NFL, the Steelers will need a new QB for head coach Mike McCarthy.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers, who replaced head coach Mike Tomlin with Mike McCarthy, will be in the quarterback market this offseason," Knox wrote. "The Steelers are open to a reunion with Aaron Rodgers, per Fowler (h/t B/R's Mike Chiari), but the 42-year-old isn't a long-term answer. A QB like Murray still might be.

"Murray's base salary of $22.8 million wouldn't cripple the Steelers, and a trade would save $34.7 million in cap space for the Cardinals. A deal could also have a major domino effect on the rest of the quarterback market.

"Pittsburgh would likely be out on draft prospects like Alabama's Ty Simpson and Miami's Carson Beck. The Cardinals would be looking for a new QB of the future, while Aaron Rodgers would be looking for a new team—if he's interested in returning for the 2026 season."

Murray has 20,460 passing yards, 121 passing touchdowns, 3,193 rushing yards and 32 rushing touchdowns in the NFL. He turns 29 in August.

A talented runner and passer, Murray played in five games in 2025. He had 962 passing yards and six passing touchdowns.

The Steelers lost to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the 2026 playoffs. Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach and was replaced by McCarthy, who won a Super Bowl with Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers.

A future Hall of Famer, Rodgers finished with 3,322 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. He completed 65.7% of his passes.

Murray is a dual-threat QB, while Rodgers isn't. The Steelers' offense would be more dynamic with Murray instead of Rodgers running show. It will be fascinating to see if Pittsburgh pursues a trade for Murray this offseason.
