The Pittsburgh Steelers could be in the process of breaking a 20-year long drought.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have not selected a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft in two decades, with Santonio Holmes representing the most recent example all the way back in 2006.
Could the Steelers break that 20-year drought this month?
Mark Kaboly of The Athletic seems to think so, stating that Pittsburgh seems to be leaning toward a receiver with the 21st overall pick of the draft.
"Wide receiver is number one, 1A in my book. Now, depending who's left at wide receiver compared to who's left at tackle or guard, then maybe if your tight end's there, then you look at that," Kaboly said on Kaboly + Mack. "I still think everything points towards a wide receiver. It has been for a while now in my mind because of the need, what they did in the offseason, where they have holes at [WR3] and [WR4] right now."
Last year, the Steelers swung a trade to acquire D.K. Metcalf, but then moved George Pickens not long after. That left Pittsburgh with very limited depth at the wide receiver position.

That being said, Pittsburgh once again lacks depth in its receiving corps.
Calvin Austin III walked via free agency, and the Steelers do not seem remotely confident in former third-round pick Roman Wilson.
This is a very deep wide receiver class, so Pittsburgh actually could land a good No. 3 wide receiver on Day 2, but Kaboly seems to believe that the Steelers are zeroing in on the position right from the jump.
Considering that this is one year Pittsburgh does have a pair of good receivers, the timing is a bit odd, but at some point, the Steelers are going to need to use a first-round draft choice on a wide out.
Of course, Pittsburgh still has a question mark at quarterback, as it does not yet know if Aaron Rodgers will be returning for another season.
Even still, the Steelers could stand to add more offensive firepower, an area in which t they were sorely lacking in 2025, and have been for years.
