The Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected to a rather strange player before the NFL Draft.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a few very key needs heading into the NFL Draft, particularly at wide receiver and along their offensive line.
But could the Steelers also address the edge rusher position early on?
Considering Pittsburgh is apparently fielding trade calls on both Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig in an attempt to clear its glut at edge rusher, the idea of the Steelers taking an edge in the early rounds would seem pretty bizarre.
However, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox actually feels it's a possibility, linking Pittsburgh to Texas Tech star Romello Height with the draft looming.
"While the Steelers may take a top-tier defender if one is available on opening night, they may be more likely to seek depth later in the draft," Knox wrote. "T.J. Watt and Cameron Heyward aren't getting any younger, and preparing for the future with prospects like Texas Tech edge Romello Height, Alabama defensive lineman LT Overton, and/or Penn State defensive lineman Zane Durant would make plenty of sense."

But would Height really make sense for them?
Yes, Height had an impressive 2025 campaign, racking up 38 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks for the Red Raiders. But he is already 25 years old, having played for four different schools throughout his collegiate career.
And assuming if Pittsburgh moves one of Highsmith or Herbig, you would think that Jack Sawyer would step into a larger role for the Steelers.
Pittsburgh just signed Watt to an extension, so while he is aging, he won't be going anywhere anytime soon. That won't leave a whole lot of room for Height, and it could end up being a wasted pick for the Steelers.
It's more likely that Pittsburgh will pursue some more depth in the trenches, whether that's on offense or defense. Knox did mention Overton as a possibility, which certainly seems more feasible than Height (or any other edge rusher).
The Steelers also have 12 draft picks, so if they really want to add another edge, they can always take one later on in the draft.
