The Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected to a polarizing quarterback to replace Aaron Rodgers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers still don't know whether or not Aaron Rodgers will be returning next season, but even if he does, they need to get their quarterback situation figured out for the future.

Unfortunately for the Steelers, this isn't the best NFL Draft class to do it, as Fernando Mendoza is the only sure-fire Day 1 signal-caller in this crop.

There should be some intriguing options available on Day 2, though, and in a recent seven-round mock draft, Dane Brugler of The Athletic predicted Pittsburgh to land one of the most polarizing of them all: LSU's Garrett Nussmeier.

More specifically, Brugler has the Steelers selecting Nussmeier with the 85th overall pick.

Nussmeier certainly had an interesting ride at LSU..

The 24-year-old joined the Tigers in 2021 and sat for his first three seasons before becoming the full-time starer in 2024, when he threw for 4,052 yards, 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 64.2 percent of his passes.

Some felt Nussmeier could ultimately declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, but he opted to return to school to clean up some of his problem areas.

The decision backfired for Nussmeier, as he ended up playing through an abdominal injury that clearly affected him all season long. He appeared in nine games overall, finishing with 1,927 yards, 12 touchdowns and five picks.

Nussmeier's draft stock has plummeted as a result, although there are still some who think he can make a decent pro due to his arm strength.

That being said, Nussmeier's lack of size and athleticism are significant drawbacks that severely limit his ceiling in the NFL.

At this point, it looks like the Lake Charles, La. native won't be anything more than a backup on the professional level, so Pittsburgh might be wasting a draft pick by selecting him so early.

To be quite frank, the Steelers would probably be better off taking a dart throw on Penn State's Drew Allar, who also had a disappointing, injury-marred 2025 campaign, but has much more impressive physicals and potential overall.

Brugler has Allar coming off the board in the fourth round, four picks after Pittsburgh makes it second third-round selection at No. 99.
