Pittsburgh Steelers Rumored Candidate to Trade for 8-Time Pro Bowler cover image

Are the Pittsburgh Steelers already planning to make a big splash at the start of the 2025 season?

Chatter is running rampant around league circles.

The Steelers are actively looking for another wide receiver to help take the pressure off their most recent acquisition D.K. Metcalf.

The problem for Pittsburgh, is that the number-two wide receiver on the depth chart is currently listed as Calvin Austin.

Austin isn’t a slouch by any means, but as a secondary option through the air, he is not. Sure, he posted an impressive 70 yards on four receptions in the Steelers’ Week 1 win against the Jets, but he doesn’t have the resume to be relied upon in that fashion.

Which is why the Steelers are looking elsewhere – and Tyreek Hill is one of their targets, according to Mike Florio of NBC.

Hill may not be the dynamo he was when he enjoyed his best years with the Kansas City Chiefs and in his early days with the Dolphins, but he’s still the speedster that can run circles around his opponents.

Last season he posted less than 1000 receiving yards for the first time since 2019, but there’s certainly an opportunity to thrive with Aaron Rodgers, and perhaps be a decoy for Metcalf.

Firstly, Florio suggested the Kansas City Chiefs as an option to trade for him – which could be an interesting option given the relationship Hill already has when he won a Super Bowl with them.

But then he mentioned Pittsburgh:

“Second, the Steelers. There’s already chatter, in the aftermath of Sunday’s win over the Jets, that the all-in Steelers could go even more all-in by making a move for Hill. Yes, Pittsburgh already has receiver DK Metcalf, who’s making $30 million per year on a five-year deal. But the Steelers don’t have a clear cut No. 2. Hill would be 1b (if not, at times, 1a) to Metcalf.”

The dynamic Hill got his season off to a bumpy start with the Miami Dolphins – an organization he already has baggage with. After the 2024 season ended, Hill made subtle claims that he wasn’t going to be in Miami anymore, and posted the Antonio Brown shirtless picture on social media.

Brown, who was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the time, left the team mid-game against the New York Jets in a showman’s fashion. He removed his uniform, and skipped to the locker room, waving to the fans that he was gone.

By positing that, Hill signaled to the public that he wanted out of Miami.

However, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier addressed the speculation and claimed that Hill never asked for a trade.

But can we fully believe that? Hill couldn’t have posted that just for fun. It was clear he was sending a message – and with his over-the-top personality, it seemed like another case of “when there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

Pairing Hill and Metcalf could be one of the more interesting storylines in the NFL. Two over-the-top personalities catching passes by another over-the-top personality.

What could go wrong?
