The Pittsburgh Steelers will have a new receivers coach next season in Adam Henry. It seems certain he will have plenty of new receivers to work with, too.
The only wide receiver who seems certain to be back with the Steelers in 2026 is DK Metcalf. He led the team in receiving yards after signing a five-year, $150-million contract following his offseason trade from the Seattle Seahawks.
However, WR2 Calvin Austin III is eligible for unrestricted free agency along with Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Scotty Miller. Veteran Adam Thielen retired at the end of the season.
Ben Skowronek figures to return after being a Pro Bowl special teams player. Roman Wilson’s status is unclear following two unproductive seasons.
Henry, though, has plenty of experience working with wide receivers. He has spent nine years coaching the position in the NFL, including the last three with the Buffalo Bills (2023-25), who finished fourth in the league in total offense this season. Henry has also had stints with the San Francisco 49ers (2015), New York Giants (2016-17), Cleveland Browns (2018-19), and Dallas Cowboys (2020-21), where he worked under Steelers coach Mike McCarthy.
Henry broke into the NFL as an assistant on the Raiders’ staff for five years from 2007-11. Among the wide receivers he has worked with in the pros are Stephon Diggs, Cee Dee Lamb, Odell Beckham Jr., and Jarvis Landry.
On the college level, Henry was an assistant at McNeese State, his alma mater, starting in 1997, with stops at LSU and Indiana.
Henry is one of 10 new assistant coaches hired since McCarthy replaced Mike Tomlin on Jan. 27. Henry joins offensive coordinator Brian Angelichico, defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, special teams coordinator Danny Crossman, assistant head coach/secondary coach Joe Whitt Jr., offensive line coach James Campen, assistant offensive line coach Jahri Evans, running backs coach Ramon Chinyoung Sr., defensive line coach Domata Peko and defensive quality control coach Pat Reilly.
Pittsburgh has retained quarterback Tom Arth and inside linebackers coach Scott McCurley from Tomlin’s staff.
Tomlin resigned one day after the Steelers’ season ended with a loss to the Houston Texans in an AFC Wild Card playoff game. He finished with a regular-season record of 193-114-2, tying Hall of Famer Chuck Noll for the franchise wins record. Pittsburgh went 10-7 this season and won its first AFC North title since 2020.
McCarthy was a head coach with the Green Bay Packers for 13 seasons from 2006-18 and with the Cowboys for five seasons from 2020-24. His record is 174-112-2 during the regular season.
