The Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers don't appear to be on the same page.
According to Michael Silver of The Athletic, the Pittsburgh Steelers were "caught off guard" by Aaron Rodgers' visit to Pittsburgh.
Rodgers was in Pittsburgh over the weekend, but he didn't meet with the Steelers. The NFL legend stayed away from the team's South Side facility while the three-day rookie minicamp was going on.
The Steelers spoke to Rodgers' agent instead of the QB himself.
"Essentially, according to a team source, the Steelers' powers that be were caught off guard by reports of Rodgers' apparent visit to Pittsburgh, as no plans for a meeting had been made," Silver wrote. "They claim to be out of the loop."
With Rodgers remaining unsigned in free agency, the Steelers applied the rarely used UFA tender on the veteran QB late last month, ensuring they would be eligible to secure a compensatory draft pick if he signed with another team.
If Rodgers were to sign the tender, he would receive a 10% raise from last year's salary, which would pay him about $15 million this season. The tender also gives the Steelers exclusive negotiating rights with the quarterback if he does not sign with another team by July 22 or the first day of Pittsburgh's training camp, whichever is later.
One of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Rodgers finished with 3,322 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2025. He completed 65.7% of his passes.
New Pittsburgh head coach Mike McCarthy and Rodgers won Super Bowl XLV against the Steelers as members of the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers told Pat McAfee a couple of months ago that he's open to playing for McCarthy again.
"I love Mike, and Mike and I have kept in contact over the years," Rodgers said. "I've had conversations with Omar. I think Omar enjoyed having me there. I think the guys had a positive response to our time together. But again, there hasn't been any deadline set on me, there hasn't been any contract floated in front of me for me to, like, 'Well, we're giving you to March 8 to make a decision on this contract.' There's been nothing to that respect. … Interested in what the conversations will be, but there hasn't been any progression when it comes to that."
A four-time MVP, Rodgers has played for the Packers, New York Jets and Steelers. He has 527 career passing touchdowns and 66,274 career passing yards
The Steelers lost to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round last season. Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach after a legendary run in Pittsburgh.
