Armed with fresh draft capital and eyes on a Super Bowl run, Pittsburgh is poised to bolster its roster as Aaron Rodgers faces a high-stakes final season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have already pulled off a couple of trades since training camp started, sending Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick, a conditional 2027 sixth-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick.
Those trades weren't because Pittsburgh is looking to sell before the deadline; the Steelers sent Jones and Porter off to Dallas to play out the final year of their rookie contracts.
Because of the trades, Pittsburgh is armed with picks that they can use to better this team in an all-in season to win the Super Bowl in Aaron Rodgers' final season in the league.
Per Steelers insider Mark Kaboly, the team appears to be looking for options before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
"Getting strong indications that the Steelers are going to be active heading into the NFL trade deadline," Kaboly posted on X.
He didn't specify what players or what position the Steelers would be looking for before the deadline.
The Steelers are 3-2 before getting set to play the 1-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday in Week 6. The Buccaneers are not expected to have starting quarterback Baker Mayfield available as he deals with a thumb injury.
With the Buccaneers set to turn to undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels, the Steelers have a chance to pile up a few wins with the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns coming up in the next couple of weeks.
The Steelers should be looking for moves that would help the team.
What should Pittsburgh be looking for this fall?
The offensive line has been an issue so far this season, causing problems in the passing game via poor protection for Rodgers. The running game has had consistency issues.
Injuries are piling up at receiver and in the secondary. Those could be places where Pittsburgh looks to add depth before making a push for the postseason.
The Steelers are currently tied for second in the AFC North with the Browns and Cincinnati Bengals. They're one game behind the 4-1 Baltimore Ravens, who might not have Lamar Jackson available to play in Week 6.
The Steelers have every reason to push the gas pedal this fall.
While they haven't been perfect in the early season, Pittsburgh has had moments to flash. The Steelers could get hot at the right time and make a push for a long postseason run if they lay their chips on the table in the next few weeks.
