Penn State quarterback Drew Allar remains one of the more interesting players in this upcoming draft class for many teams, mainly ones that either don’t know who their quarterback will be or have an older veteran under center.

While most teams will likely view him as a developmental option, some could see a path to playing right away. One franchise that makes sense for that is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation remains far from settled.

Much of the conversation has centered around the possibility of Aaron Rodgers returning, but as time passes, that scenario only grows with more questions. If Rodgers hangs them up or doesn’t return to Pittsburgh, the Steelers are left with a quarterback room that will be the worst in the NFL by a wide margin.

Mason Rudolph and Will Howard are in the group, but neither has shown anything to suggest they can be the guy. Rudolph has experience, and Howard offers some intrigue, but the lack of a clear-cut answer doesn’t bring much hope.

With Allar’s size and big arm strength, he has the tools that typically find success in the NFL. While he’ll still need to figure things out, like playing better in important games, the Steelers could be looking for a guy with traits and he has those.

Reports indicated that Allar met with the Steelers during the NFL Combine, and the kid who played in PA and the team in PA could like each other for that.

Alexander Underwood of Onward State believes Allars would be a fit in Pittsburgh, adding both the fit and the potential opportunity Allar could have with the Steelers.

“Allar and the Steelers met during the NFL combine and have continued to express interest in the gunslinger.

“As the hope of Aaron Rodgers returning slowly keeps dying, all that’s left on the Pittsburgh roster is Mason Rudolph and Will Howard. If it came down to a QB battle between those three, it is certainly possible that Allar could win the starting job,” he wrote.

Rudolph will probably be the guy for the Steelers if Rodgers decides to hang them up, but Allar would be an intriguing option to bring in to win a job.
