The Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected to a rather intriguing wide receiver trade.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could definitely use some depth behind D.K. Metcalf in their wide receiver room, so they should be pretty active on the trade market between now and the November deadline.

While Tyreek Hill will probably be the ultimate prize, there will be plenty of other more realistic options available, and Josh Weil of Pro Football Network has linked the Steelers to a pretty interesting candidate: Carolina Panthers receiver Xavier Legette.

"Look for the Panthers to strongly consider moving on from Legette by cutting their losses and investing the pick in their offensive line or defense," Weil wrote. "Interestingly enough, I do think some rebuilding teams may even take a look at him to see if he can go with a young quarterback or a top pick next year."

The Panthers selected Legette in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but Legette struggled during his rookie campaign, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns. It has been even worse for the University of South Carolina product in Year 2, as he has logged just four catches for eight yards in two games.

But perhaps a change of scenery could do Legette some good?

To be fair, it's not like Legette has been the beneficiary of great quarterback play in Carolina. That being said, Legette has also had an issue with dropped passes, and Bryce Young's struggles have not prevented Tetairoa McMillan from already enjoying a great rookie campaign.

Regardless, there may be another team out there that may be able to squeeze more out of Legette, who hauled in 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven scores during his final collegiate campaign in 2023.

Right now, the Steelers are employing Calvin Austin III as their No. 2 receiver. Austin has played well for stretches, but Pittsburgh absolutely needs to add more weapons behind Metcalf to support Aaron Rodgers.

The Steelers will surely be aiming for more dependable playmakers than Legette, but if all else fails, they may want to consider taking a chance on the 24-year-old.

Pittsburgh is 2-1 and will face the Minnesota Vikings in Ireland on Sunday.
