The Pittsburgh Steelers made a major roster move on Tuesday.
After losing to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the Steelers have decided to part ways with Darius Slay and sign Asante Samuel Jr. from the practice squad to the active roster.
Slay appeared in 10 games this season. He recorded zero interceptions, 28 solo tackles and one tackle for loss.
Slay is not retiring from the NFL. He can sign with any team of his choice. Many fans think the veteran will go back to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Steelers are 6-6. They are tied with the Baltimore Ravens for first place in the AFC North. The two rivals play each other this week.
Pittsburgh is 15th in the NFL in points per game and 20th in points per game allowed. Black and Gold fans are not happy right now, as they were cheering "Fire Mike Tomlin" during the Bills game.
"In general, I agree with them, from this perspective: Football is our game, we're in a sport entertainment business," Tomlin said Tuesday. "And so if you root for the Steelers, entertaining them is winning. And so when you're not winning, it's not entertaining."
The Steelers haven't won a playoff game since 2016. Tomlin is a Steelers legend, but he knows that he has to turn things around to keep the boo birds away.
"If you've been in this business, you understand that, and so I respect it," Tomlin said. "I share frustrations, I understand what makes this thing go, and winning is what makes this thing go. ... I own the responsibility of making sure that these guys understand a component of being a tough team to beat is not beating ourselves.
"We had some penalties and certainly you're going to have penalties when you play. But penalties of the 15-yard variety, loss of composure and things of that nature hadn't been us. And so that needs to be corrected immediately."
If the Steelers don't win a playoff game this season or miss the playoffs entirely, could Tomlin get fired.
Only time will tell.
