Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph has drawn trade interest from multiple teams ahead of the NFL season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are fairly set at the quarterback position entering the 2026 NFL season.
Aaron Rodgers will be the starter once again, giving the team a real chance to contend this season. But behind him, there are multiple guys vying for the position along the Steelers' depth chart.
Right now, Mason Rudolph is the backup to Rodgers, with Will Howard and Drew Allar following behind. But it seems that Rudolph could be on the move, with the veteran quarterback reportedly drawing some trade interest.
NFL insider Jason La Canfora has reported that multiple executives around the league are open to trading for Rudolph. But the problem is that there are too many options available for teams, which could water down the market.
"NFL executives have stated that the Steelers are very open to trading veteran Mason Rudolph. However, the one thing stopping this is not Pittsburgh's willingness to sell, it's the number of quarterbacks potentially available across the league, which could make finding a deal more difficult." La Canfora said.
It's not sustainable for the Steelers to keep four quarterbacks on the roster, meaning that some type of change will be coming. Rudolph likely has the most value across the NFL over any of the younger guys, giving Pittsburgh a chance to get something in return for his services.
Rudolph has been in the league since 2019, but he's never played in more than 10 games in a season. He has been the ultimate backup, mainly with the Steelers.
Last year, Rudolph filled in for Rodgers while he was hurt in a game, but he did appear in five contests total. In the limited time, Rudolph threw for 310 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
But Rudolph has a big arm, which is something that teams covet from a quarterback. If he were to be traded, he could potentially look to be given a chance to play, depending on where he landed.
At this time, it doesn't seem like the Steelers will fully entertain a trade for Rudolph, especially with Rodgers being 42 years old. But if a team were to come in with a strong enough offer, the former Oklahoma State product could be on the move.
The Steelers are trying to go further than they did this past season, when they were bounced early in the playoffs again. Pittsburgh has a new head coach in Mike McCarthy, but the roster seems set.
Pittsburgh opens the year at home against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 on Sept. 13.
