The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for wide receiver help, but they unfortunately missed out on one of their top targets before the NFL trade deadline.
ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired receiver Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders, sending fourth and sixth-round draft picks to the Raiders in return for the 29-year-old.
Schefter added that the Steelers expressed interest, but they obviously weren't willing to meet Las Vegas' asking price of a pair of Day 3 picks.
Remember: Pittsburgh already dealt a second-rounder to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for D.K. Metcalf during the offseason, so the Steelers are probably being careful about how much they spend in terms of draft capital, especially for another wide out.
It stings to lose out on Meyers, who hauled in 87 receptions for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns last year. He would have served as a terrific complement to Metcalf and would have provided Aaron Rodgers with a very sure-handed weapon.

However, Pittsburgh clearly did not want to part with two draft choices, which is understandable given the other needs the Steelers have on their roster.
More specifically, Pittsburgh needs help defensively. Yes, the Steelers had a strong defensive showing against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday, but they still rank just 30th in the league in that category. If they want to bolster the unit prior to the deadline, they will have to surrender some draft picks, so it makes sense to save some of those assets.
Pittsburgh sits atop the AFC North at 5-3 and has largely benefited from injuries to both Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson this season. Not to take anything away from the Steelers, who are definitely a good football team, but you kind of get the feeling they are still a couple of pieces short of genuinely contending for a Super Bowl.
We'll see if general manager Omar Khan is able to get anything done before the trade deadline expires on Tuesday afternoon.
There should be some other receivers available, too, so perhaps Pittsburgh will now pivot away from Meyers and land a wide receiver elsewhere.
