Prioritizing young talent could alienate the veteran MVP as the Pittsburgh Steelers limit reps to develop Will Howard and Drew Allar, risking a rift over crucial practice time.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking four quarterbacks into OTAs this spring.

That isn't uncommon for the Steelers or many other league teams around the NFL, but it could spark some drama this summer with Aaron Rodgers.

Remember when Shedeur Sanders was throwing to trash cans and equipment managers at this time last year? Yeah, the Steelers don't want a repeat of that with Drew Allar.

Pittsburgh wants to give second-year quarterback Will Howard and third-round pick Allar helpful reps this spring and summer.

Steelers insider Mark Kaboly thinks the coaching staff's plan will be to pull back on reps for Rodgers and Mason Rudolph, which might irritate the four-time NFL MVP, who wants his practice reps to get on the same page with his receivers.

"Rest assured, there is a plan to get Aaron Rodgers ready for the season, have Mason Rudolph prepped just in case, and then continue to develop Will Howard and Drew Allar," Kaboly posted on X. "For that to happen, the Steelers are going to have to at least pull back on some reps from their two veterans during the rest of OTAs and into training camp as well.

"That might not go over well with Rodgers, who is a maniac when it comes to practicing despite being 42 and going into his 22nd year. Rodgers needs to have fresher legs in December, and if that means not busting your ass in August and allowing Howard and Allar to do the heaviest of lifting, then so be it."

Kaboly thinks Allar will get the fewest reps this summer.

On Tuesday, Steelers offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio said there was a plan in place for the spring, but didn't provide the full details.

"I think it's great," Angelichio said, via the Steelers. "I think you can never have enough quarterbacks. The one thing (head) Coach (Mike) McCarthy talks about is the development and training of the quarterbacks.

"With the system that's in place here, I think it's great that we have four quarterbacks. It's something that we're really excited about. We have a good plan of how we're going to get those guys reps so they can all continue to develop."

One of those quarterbacks is getting left behind by the end of training camp, and it's a good guess Rodgers and Allar won't be it.
