Former Ohio State star Will Howard is hoping that he gets to meet up with one of his buddies again for the Pittsburgh Steelers in another Buckeyes standout in Carnell Tate. Ohio State continues to do what Ohio State does, putting stars in the NFL, and Tate is expected to be another one.
While it sounds like they’d enjoy playing with each other, it remains uncertain how possible that really is.
However, when speaking about Howard, Tate had some funny remarks about him.
“Oh, Will isn’t giving me no tips. He’s probably going to root for me to come with him to Pittsburgh,” Tate said.
Tate added that he wishes him well and that he loves him.
“I’m happy for him,” Tate said. “I wish him nothing but the best. Love that guy to death.”
The Steelers might not even give Howard a chance to play, which would fall on in this case. However, even if he were to start, according to PennLive, a reunion between the two in Pittsburgh is unlikely.
And realistically, that checks out.
“This reunion is unlikely, but the bond Tate and Howard have is no surprise given just how well the quarterback and wide receiver meshed together in their lone season as teammates in Columbus during the 2024 season,” Nick Farabaugh wrote.
That said, we can never count anything out in the NFL Draft. NBC, however, currently has Tate as the No. 2 receiver available in this upcoming draft and it seems likely that the Steelers would have to trade up to land him.
“Tate is a technician with good length and ball skills to finish plays. He’s extremely detailed in his footwork to win at multiple levels of the field and does not drop passes (he has 10 ¼” hands). Tate has hauled in an absurd 18 of 24 contested catch opportunities over the last two seasons, showing off excellent tracking, concentration and adjustments to the football.
“He’s not very creative or explosive after the catch and could add more strength to his 192 pound frame. Overall, Tate should be a high-end number two wide receiver at the next level with a chance to blossom into more,” Connor Rogers wrote.
