Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan has been given a tough future outlook after the team traded away Joey Porter Jr.
Other than the Pittsburgh Steelers dropping their Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns, the big storyline around the team has come off the field.
Pittsburgh traded away star cornerback Joey Porter Jr., sending him to the Dallas Cowboys following long contract negotiations. Porter has been sitting out this season due to an injury, with the talks stalling out simataniously.
The Steelers sent Porter to Dallas in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round draft pick and a 2028 second-round draft pick. The trade package was a little light, and Pittsburgh likely couldn't have received a little more for the star defender.
But Pittsburgh may have wanted to get out from under the Porter situation, getting rid of any unnecessary distractions. Nonetheless, Porter is now with the Cowboys, and the Steelers can move forward with their organization.
The Steelers were given poor grades for the trade, and some have even wondered about the future of general manager Omar Khan. NFL.com analyst Kevin Patra questioned whether Khan would still be around to make the 2028 draft pick if the Steelers were to keep faltering.
Under the leadership of Khan, the Steelers have put together mediocore draft classes, with the team making some questionable trades. This has put his performance under a microscope, and he may be on the hot seat with the organization.
Pittsburgh currently sits at 2-2 on the new season, with the team seeing similiar results that they had a year ago. The Steelers did make a lot of moves during the offseason to improve both the offense and defense, but at least though the first few weeks of the season, it's more of the same.
If the Steelers can't turn things around quickly, Khan could be looking for a new job. But for now, Pittsburgh will try to change the narrative around them moving forward, hoping for the best from this group of players.
Pittsburgh could always elect to make some more trades at the deadline, trying to bring more talent onto the roster. With veteran Aaron Rodgers under center, Pittsburgh should be much better than they currently are, but the offensive line hasn't panned out as well as the team would have hoped.
The offense has been very inconsistent since last year, and this has caused all sorts of issues for the team. But there is still plenty of time left for the Steelers to get back on track, sending Rodgers out with a bang.
