The Pittsburgh Steelers have been hit with concerning news about quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers played well throughout the 2025 NFL season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Entering the offseason, the future Hall of Fame quarterback is set to hit free agency.

Last offseason, the Steelers signed Rodgers to a one-year deal. Following the conclusion of the season, Pittsburgh was widely expected to bring him back for the 2026 season.

Following Mike Tomlin's decision to step down as head coach after the season ended, the Steelers' chances of re-signing Rodgers took a sharp drop. However, the team quickly pivoted to hiring Rodgers' former head coach with the Green Bay Packers, Mike McCarthy, which made the odds rise in their favor.

Now, a new concerning update has been shared about Pittsburgh's chances of re-signing Rodgers for next year.

As shared by Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, NFL insider Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports doesn't think the Steelers have a good chance of re-signing Rodgers in free agency.

"Great NFL insider @AKinkhabwala says on @937theFan that people around Aaron Rodgers believe there's a 'minuscule chance' he's back with the Steelers in 2026," Fillipponi wrote on X.

"And that's Rodgers decision. Not the Steelers. Based on what they observed at the end of last season."

Should Rodgers choose to play elsewhere or retire, Pittsburgh could be in a bit of trouble. The Steelers don't have another quarterback on the roster capable of starting and playing at a high level in 2026.

Will Howard and Mason Rudolph were the other main quarterbacks on the roster last season. Pittsburgh could look to sign or trade for a quarterback or draft a player like Ty Simpson, but that would likely result in a falloff from what Rodgers brought to the field.

Throughout the course of the 2025 NFL season, the 41-year-old quarterback played in 16 regular season games. He completed 65.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Rodgers proved that he's still capable of playing at a high level.

Only time will tell whether or not the Steelers will be able to bring Rodgers back for one more season. This update doesn't bode well for those chances, but nothing is set in stone at this point in time.
