Steelers Should Consider Trade of Veteran WR, Even if It's for Just Now

The goal is to win and he'd help that.

It's only a matter of time before the Pittsburgh Steelers make the necessary decisions they have to before the NFL trade deadline.

With the trade deadline coming up shortly, the Steelers will have to make a move or two. In second place in the AFC North and tied with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens at 5-2, Pittsburgh also feels it has a chance to win the division if things go its way over the next couple of months.

Unfortunately, there still are some problems that the Steelers are going to have to figure out on both sides of the football.

Defensively, it's an older unit, and I have questions about it at times, but the offense is still the bigger focus.

Adding another wide receiver needs to be among the Steelers' decisions, with multiple options available.

An SB Nation writer recently floated an interesting name: Stefon Diggs of the Washington Commanders could be a guy who interests Pittsburgh.

“The writing is on the wall for the Commanders. They're 1-4-1, although Dan Quinn probably thinks they are 2-3-1. Jayden Daniels' health, and overall demeanor are becoming real issues that have real question marks. Steelers fans would likely prefer the younger Thomas, but assuming he ends up in New York, Diggs could be a name to whom they shift their attention. Yes, he will turn 33 at the end of November, but Diggs is coming off a 1,000-yard season and playing good football for Washington.

“Through six weeks, he has 24 receptions and four touchdowns. 62.3 percent of his snaps have come from the slot this season, which could lead to the Steelers going with DK Metcalf and Germie Bernard on the outside with Diggs inside as their top three receivers, while also rotating in Michael Pittman and Roman Wilson,” SB Nation’s Jarrett Bailey wrote.

Diggs has been among the best in the NFL throughout his career, though he's certainly at a different stage right now. At the same time, we have to give credit to the 32-year-old veteran considering how well he's played. He has 24 catches for 214 yards, which isn't great at 8.9 yards per catch, but he also has four touchdowns.

He'd be a different receiver than what the Steelers have now, but there are plenty of reasons to like him as a player.

There have obviously been some off-the-field problems in the past to consider, but ultimately, Diggs is a guy who could come in and make a nice-sized impact.
