It sounds like the Pittsburgh Steelers could be without Aaron Rodgers over the next few games, as the veteran quarterback is dealing with a slight break in his left wrist.
It remains uncertain how long Rodgers will be out at this point, but for the foreseeable future, Mason Rudolph will have to start.
It's tough to say that Rudolph is the perfect option for the Steelers, considering what we've seen him be throughout his career, but he also did a decent job on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals aren’t a great defensive team, as we've seen many times, but he still went out there and did his job.
For some, it was a step in the right direction, and others even went as far as to say that he should be playing over Rodgers moving forward.
That includes Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports, who believes that no matter how Rodgers feels this week, he shouldn't play against the Chicago Bears, and Rudolph should be the starter.
“With Rudolph under center, Pittsburgh's offense performed better than it has in weeks. Against the Bengals, Rudolph was decisive in his decision-making, didn't turn the ball over and was clutch on third down. He was also more accurate than Rodgers, who for whatever reason hasn't been consistently on the same page with his receivers in recent weeks...
“But while Rodgers' individual numbers are good, he and the Steelers' offense have struggled mightily over the last few weeks. Rodgers has especially been off; he's routinely been off-target with his throws and has often held onto the ball for too long,” he wrote.
In some sense, I understand what DeArdo is saying, but it's also fair to mention that there's not a chance Rodgers is going to be benched in a scenario like this.
Perhaps they allow Rudolph to play if Rodgers isn’t 100%, but even if he's close to that, I'd be shocked if the Steelers didn’t give him the keys to the offense again.
Rodgers was signed by Pittsburgh to help win when it matters most, and with the AFC North being in a tight race with the Baltimore Ravens, it needs him.
