The Pittsburgh Steelers typically don’t make big moves and until it happens, we’ll have to question whether it ever will. However, some seem to believe the Steelers could go in that direction during this draft, including Christopher Carter, who did so in his latest mock draft.

His idea would completely change the offense in a very promising way.

In this scenario, the Steelers would move down from No. 21, getting the 40th overall selection. They’d also be giving up picks No. 76 and 135. After making this trade, the Steelers would take Omar Cooper Jr., a national champion from Indiana.

“Cooper is one of the more complete receivers in the draft class with good speed, excellent hands and a developed route tree. He was the top receiver for Heisman Trophy winner and most likely first-overall pick quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

“He doesn’t have the size of Carnell Tate and Jordyn Tyson or the explosiveness of Makai Lemon, but he may be the next best option as the fourth-highest ranked receiver on our most recent top 100 prospect rankings. We gave a full breakdown with more data and film in our draft profile of Cooper. But if the Steelers selected him, he’d be a talented complement to team up with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. He could be the dynamic receiver who gives Mike McCarthy a triplet of primary receiving threats,” he wrote.

Pairing Cooper with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. would give the offense three legitimate targets who can make plays in different ways. Of course, we don’t know who the Steelers quarterback is going to be right now. However, even if it isn’t Aaron Rodgers, there’s reason to believe that most quarterbacks could succeed with that room.

New head coach Mike McCarthy always finds success in the passing game, so this would be another instance where he has a lot of talent in his system. I’d expect the Steelers to be real good if they were to do something like this.

It would be a lot to give up for Cooper but at the same time, he might be a first round talent.
