Trade rumors around Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph have come up again.
The Pittsburgh Steelers sit at 2-2 on the season, following a tough loss last week at the hands of the Cleveland Browns.
The 2026 season has been a tough one for the Steelers, with the team showing some signs of inconsistency again. It has been more of the same for Pittsburgh, with very similar issues stemming from last season rearing its head.
The Steelers still have veteran Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback, with three other signal-callers on the roster. This could see Pittsburgh potentially look to make a move involving one of the quarterbacks, opening up roster space for someone else.
The one player who could be moved is Mason Rudolph, who is currently the backup for the Steelers. Rudolph has been subject to trade rumors for some time now, and Pittsburgh may elect to finally move him this season.
Two teams that could be interesting landing spots for Rudolph are the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New York has Geno Smith, but he hasn't played up to par this season.
Rudolph could come in to bring some stability to the Jets, or even give the team a more solid backup. New York may want to go younger, however, which could make this a tougher landing spot.
As for Tampa Bay, starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is out for a few weeks due to injury, but the Buccaneers have started the year winless. Depending on when he can return, it may not make too much sense, and the team may want to avoid further issues.
This is where someone like Rudolph could come in, or the Buccaneers could also want to upgrade the backup spot. Tampa Bay currently has a rookie quarterback starting behind Mayfield, and Rudolph could be a better option.
While Rudolph has never been a starter, he has seen some game action and could provide a team with a decent option. Rudolph has a strong arm, and teams across the league have been intrigued with him since he was drafted.
Pittsburgh could part with Rudolph this season, getting some type of future draft compensation back in return. The hope is that Rudolph never sees the field anyway, and the Steelers may be better off giving the backup job to one of the younger guys on the roster.
Overall, Rudolph is one of the bigger trade chips for the Steelers this year. And until the trade deadline passes, these rumors will continue to come about.
