If the Pittsburgh Steelers want to select a quarterback in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, there are a few ways to look at it.

For one, drafting a quarterback wouldn’t be a bad idea if the plan is to have Aaron Rodgers play another season.

Even if the Steelers don’t go that route, there’s reason to believe it would be wise to bring in a rookie quarterback and allow him to grow within the system.

Having Rodgers around would only help, as the future Hall of Famer could show a young quarterback what it takes to play at the highest level.

If the Steelers bring Rodgers back and believe they have a legitimate chance to win a Super Bowl next season, there’s also a scenario where they add another player to help make that happen.

Pro Football Network believes that will be the case, predicting the Steelers to select USC wide receiver Makai Lemon.

“Depending on Aaron Rodgers’ plans after the season, this will likely influence the Steelers’ approach in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, in the event Rodgers is to play for Pittsburgh in 2026, securing the veteran gunslinger a new weapon to throw to and pair with DK Metcalf seems like a safe bet.

“USC’s Makai Lemon is as good as they come at the wide receiver position, coming off a Biletnikoff Award-winning season. With his versatility, decorated route tree, and elite athleticism, Lemon would be a great addition to Pittsburgh’s offense,” PFN wrote.

It’s tough to say Lemon is the best wide receiver in this draft class, but he’s certainly among the top options.

Players like Jordyn Tyson and Lemon are appealing prospects, along with several others, so the Steelers should be happy if they’re able to land him.

The issue, however, is what happens when Rodgers leaves.

The Steelers don’t currently have a long-term answer at quarterback to throw to players like Lemon and others.

That’s something the organization will have to address, and it may come sooner rather than later. Regardless, though, Lemon would be a nice player to have on the roster.
