Pittsburgh Steelers center Zach Frazier could experience something new on Sunday in the AFC North leaders' game against the Bears in Chicago.
Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' status for the game is questionable after he sustained a minor fracture in his left wrist last Sunday in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals at Acrisure Stadium. If Rodgers plays, he will need to wear a wrist brace, and Frazier has never snapped a ball to a quarterback with a hand injury.
"I guess we'll find out," Frazier said when asked if he could handle the situation. "But I assume if he's good enough to play, I'm sure that he'll be good enough to take a snap. I don't think there'd be any difference in the snap if he's good to go."
It remains to be seen whether Rodgers will be good to go, and that decision is not likely to be made until Friday. If Rodgers can't play, then backup Mason Rudolph will get the start after playing the second half of last week's game and completing 12 of 16 passes for 127 yards and one touchdown.
"I feel like I always operate the same, no matter who's back there," Frazier said. "I don't think it's a big difference for me from a communication standpoint and stuff like that."
Frazier has operated at a high level since the Steelers selected him in the second round of last year's draft from West Virginia. Pro Football Focus ranks Frazier as the 10th-best center in the league with a 71.4 grade, which is the highest mark for any of the Steelers' interior linemen. Frazier graded out at 77.9 as a rookie.
Rodgers is a four-time MVP and a 21-year veteran, yet Rudolph is a capable backup as he showed last week. Frazier has faith in both QBs.
"Mason, obviously, we got a ton of reps over the summer," Frazier said. "Actually, all of OTAs I got reps with Mason, and I'm very confident in him. And then obviously, all the work with Aaron this year. So, whoever's out there, we would feel confident that they can go out there and help us win the game."
