Should the Texans consider Bryant Wesco next offseason?
Bryant Wesco is coming off a severe back injury, but his dangerous speed, flashes of route running, and ability after the catch make him a dangerous weapon. This ability is drawing the attention of scouts, including Fox Sports’ Rob Rang, who mocked Wesco to the Houston Texans in his latest 2027 NFL Mock Draft.
First off, this mock draft isn’t a prediction for next April. It’s way too early for that, as countless things will change before then. However, that doesn’t remove its value. Instead, it’s a key resource for fans to identify talented prospects who could make sense during the draft. Remember that throughout the article.
That said, Rang notes that Wesco’s elite speed and high potential make him an enticing target for Houston.
“Catastrophic injuries to Tank Dell and now Jayden Higgins are compromising the Texans' passing attack and stunting the development of young quarterback C.J. Stroud. Rather than banking on a return to health from the undeniably talented pass-catchers already on the roster, GM Nick Caserio may opt to add to the room,” Rang wrote. “A Texas native who inherited his parents’ track-star speed, Wesco could be a perfect fit for Houston.”
As Rang notes, Wesco is an elite vertical threat who uses his long strides to eat up ground. This speed is also evident after the catch, where the six-foot-two, 195-pound junior has another gear he can reach. Beyond this, he’s a promising route runner and has flashed the ability to create instant separation by sinking his hips and decelerating on a dime.
The biggest question that Wesco must answer in 2026 is his health. He suffered a serious back injury last year and missed the final six games. To Texans fans' relief, it isn’t a soft-tissue injury that will recur. However, he still must prove that he’s back to 100% and didn’t lose any athleticism. If he returns fully healthy, then he could be a first-round pick next April.
Wesco’s skill set should intrigue the Texans, especially with their need at receiver. Rang highlighted the room’s talent, including Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Jayden Higgins. However, they’ve been decimated by injuries and can’t be expected to stay healthy. As a result, it would make sense to invest significant draft capital in the position next offseason.
It’s still early, but Bryant Wesco Jr. is already emerging as an option for the Texans in the 2027 NFL Draft. He needs to showcase his health, but his elite speed, ability after the catch, and route running make him a premier receiver in the nation.
