Texans Scouting: Three Week Seven College Football Matchups Fans Must Watch
Oct 24, 2026 12:54 AM

What prospects should fans tune into on Saturday?

College football has countless matchups between star players, but which ones should fans watch? To help with this, here are three face-offs that Houston Texans fans must watch.

These aren’t necessarily the top players. Instead, it’s tailored to the Texans' needs and is a mix of first-round prospects and underrated, later-round players.

That said, let’s dive into three matchups Texans fans should watch.

John Henry Daley vs. Carter Smith

Related stories

Michigan has struggled in 2026, but edge rusher John Henry Daley is having an excellent season. The former Utah and BYU prospect has four sacks, six tackles for loss, and 14 pressures through seven games. His pass rush refinement, motor, and athleticism make him a dangerous prospect who can wreck an opposing offense’s game plan.

However, he faces arguably the top tackle nationally in Indiana’s Carter Smith. The fifth-year senior has only allowed one sack and five pressures this season. His impeccable technique and power make it challenging for edge rushers to generate any pressure.

The Wolverines must make Josh Hoover uncomfortable to complete the upset victory, which won’t be easy. Either way, someone’s stock is rising for the Texans.

Kewan Lacy vs. Texas defense

Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy hasn’t had a stellar year, but is beginning to bounce back from an early-season injury. However, he’s still a premier running back nationally. He dominated against Missouri in week seven with 16 carries for 122 yards and is trending up.

On the other side, a hungry Texas defense is looking for life. They’ve dropped back-to-back games and will likely be without star edge rusher Colin Simmons. Despite this, they are still a talented team that can make Lacy’s life difficult.

Lacy dominating this game is key to establishing himself as a first-round target. He’s on the Texans’ radar; now it’s time to capitalize on it and bounce back after a slow start.

Ashton Hampton vs. Que’Sean Brown

We’ve named a couple of marquee matchups; now it’s time for an underrated one.

Clemson cornerback Ashton Hampton has had a spectacular 2026 campaign. He held Heisman candidate Malachi Toney to 40 yards and has already tallied an interception and nine pass breakups.

He will line up against Virginia Tech wide receiver Que’Sean Brown. What Brown lacks in size (five-foot-eight, 175 pounds), he compensates for with speed and burst. He’s difficult to guard in coverage and is dangerous after the catch, frequently turning minor gains into game-changing plays.

This matchup will play a large role in this game. Regardless of the outcome, the Texans must watch both Hampton and Brown. They could be big risers next offseason.
