The Houston Texans battled hard, but ultimately they dropped to 0-4 as they fell to the Dallas Cowboys by a final score of 34-30.
The Houston Texans matched up with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4, and it resulted in quite the game as the Cowboys picked up the 34-30 win.
On that note, let's take at how this game went and what enabled the Cowboys to come out on top and put the Texans in a very tough position.
To start the game, quarterback CJ Stroud led the Houston offense all the way down the field on a solid drive, which ended in Stroud throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Nico Collins to give the Texans a 7-0 lead.
The Cowboys were able to respond as quarterback Dak Prescott led his offense on a solid drive, but Dallas was unable to get into the end zone, so they had kicker Brandon Aubrey come on the field, and he hit a 39-yard field goal to trim the Houston lead to 7-3.
Then, the Texans were able to have another solid drive as Stroud led Houston down the field, but in the end, Houston was unable to get deep into Dallas territory, so kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn trotted onto the field and nailed a 51-yard field goal, which extended the Texans' lead to 10-3.
After that, the Cowboys moved the ball down the field again with the drive ending in a 50-yard field goal from Aubrey to cut the Texans lead to 10-6.
Following the field goal from the Cowboys, Houston punted on their next two possessions with Dallas punting on their next possession.
Then on the Cowboys next drive they did a good job moving the ball down the field and Aubrey lined up for a field goal attempt from 62 yards out, however it was blocked by Texans edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. which kept the Texans up 10-6.
As a result of the blocked field goal, Houston had a short field and they were able to capitalize as Stroud led the offense down the field a bit more with the drive ending in a 39-yard field goal from Fairbairn to extend the Texans lead to 13-6.
On the next drive, Prescott led the Cowboys on a decent drive to set up a 65-yard field goal, but Aubrey missed it which once again set the Texans up with solid field position.
To finish the half, Stroud and the Texans had another good drive as they capitalized on the solid field position, and the final play of the first half was Fairbairn drilling a 39-yard field goal to add more cushion to the Houston lead, with the Texans going into the half up 16-6 over the Cowboys.
In the third quarter, there was a lot of scoring as the Cowboys started off the quarter on a great drive that ended with an eight-yard rushing touchdown from running back Javonte Williams to cut the lead to 16-13.
The Texans responded right back as Stroud led Houston all the way down the field and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Collins to add cushion to the lead, with Houston now leading 23-13.
After that, Dallas punched right back as Prescott marched his offense all the way down again, and Williams scored his second touchdown on a one-yard rushing touchdown, which slimmed down the lead to 23-20.
Then, the Texans were forced to punt and the Cowboys were able to take advantage as they moved the ball all the way down the field with the drive ending in a two-yard rush from Williams giving him his third rushing touchdown of the day and allowing the Cowboys to take the lead 27-23 for the first time in the entire game.
Following Dallas' drive to take the lead, the Texans and Cowboys each punted once, and then Houston was able to respond as they had a solid drive and had running back Woody Marks run it in from six yards out, which gave the Texans the lead back 30-27.
The Cowboys needed to respond, and they did as Prescott and the offense moved the ball very effectively through the air, and at the end of the drive, Prescott threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver CeDee Lamb, which gave Dallas the 34-30 lead back with 40 seconds remaining.
On the final drive of the game, the Texans tried to respond, but it all came down to a hail mary, and Stroud launched it up, but no one came down with it for Houston, meaning that Dallas won the game 34-30.
With the loss, the Texans now fall to 0-4 and with the win, the Cowboys improve to 2-2 on the year.
Moving forward Houston is in a very tough position when it comes to winning the division or even making the playoffs, so it will be very interesting to see how the Texans respond and if they can pick up a win next week.
