Another Piece On The Board: Texans Sign Foster Moreau As A Solid Tight End Target For C.J. Stroud

In the high-octane arms race that is the AFC South, the Houston Texans just made a move that won’t break the internet, but might just win them the division.

News broke yesterday that Foster Moreau, the 6’4” New Orleans native and former LSU standout, has agreed to a two-year, $6.3 million deal to join DeMeco Ryans’ squad. While the headlines usually follow the deep-threat speedsters or the flashy defensive ends, this signing is a solid example in roster stabilization.

While Dalton Schultz remains the primary receiving threat at tight end, the Texans’ 2025 campaign was marred by inconsistent blocking and a revolving door of secondary tight ends due to injuries.

Moreau brings two things that are often overlooked until they're missing:

Elite Run Blocking: Moreau has consistently ranked as an above-average blocker.In a division where the ground game dictates the tempo, his ability to seal the edge for Woody Marks and the Texans' backfield is invaluable.

Red Zone Reliability: At 6’4” and 250 lbs, Moreau is a massive target. He doesn't need to burn a safety deep; he just needs to box out a linebacker. With 18 career touchdowns, he’s a proven "safety valve" when the windows get tight inside the 20-yard line.

For Moreau, this move represents a clean slate. His time in New Orleans was defined by an incredible, emotional comeback from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a story that made him a local hero. However, on the field, a nagging ankle injury limited him to just seven catches in 2025.

By heading west to Houston, Moreau leaves the pressure of being the "hometown kid" and joins an offense where he isn't asked to be the savior. He is asked to simply just be the veteran anchor. Joining a room with Schultz and young talent like Cade Stover, Moreau provides the "pro’s pro" presence that helps a young locker room navigate the playoffs.

The contract is the cherry on top. A $6.3 million guarantee over two years is a bargain for a player who can realistically play 50% of the snaps.
