Stroud believes the former Ohio State star can become one of the NFL’s best receivers as he begins a new chapter in Houston.

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is excited to see what Marvin Harrison Jr. can bring to the offense following the team's trade to acquire the talented wide receiver.

Harrison, who starred at Ohio State before being the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, arrives in Houston with the opportunity to establish himself in a new environment. Stroud is already familiar with Harrison's abilities from their time as teammates time in college and believes the receiver has the work ethic, talent and character to thrive with the Texans.

"Yeah, I think he brings a dynamic playmaker, somebody who runs great routes, can catch really any ball," Stroud said. "And I'm just super excited to get with him, I loved him in college."

Stroud's praise went beyond Harrison's production on the field. He emphasized the receiver's approach to his work and the type of person he is away from football, pointing to qualities that could help him smoothly transition into Houston's locker room.

"He's probably the hardest worker I've ever been around in my life, and then just who he is off the field," Stroud said. "He's a great dude, a quiet guy, but definitely, you feel his presence."

For Houston, adding a receiver with Harrison's route-running ability and ball skills gives the offense another potential weapon.

Of course, his NFL career hasn't necessarily gone as planned. But his ability to make difficult catches and create opportunities downfield could make him a valuable option for Stroud as the Texans look to strengthen their passing attack.

However, Stroud isn't approaching the addition with unrealistic expectations. Rather than putting pressure on Harrison to immediately become a star, the quarterback wants him to focus on adjusting to his new surroundings and learning the offense.

"I think it's perfect for him, I think fresh starts are good," Stroud said. "So I'm excited to get him with us."

That mindset could be important as Harrison gets acclimated to a new atmosphere.

"I'm not an expectation type of person when it comes to others or even myself," Stroud said. "I think I'm a one thing at a time, the next thing I'm focused on is getting these things corrected from this game."

StroudUSA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect wants Harrison to take the same approach by focusing on what comes next rather than worrying about outside expectations. For now, that means getting to Houston, learning the playbook and preparing to contribute.

Still, Stroud made it clear that he believes Harrison has the ability to become an elite receiver if he continues to be himself.

"If he's himself, he's gonna be one of the best receivers," Stroud said. "I think he got drafted where he got drafted for a reason, and I think he'll be able to show that."

Harrison's arrival gives Houston another reason to be optimistic about its offensive potential. With Stroud already believing in his talent and work ethic, the next step will be translating that familiarity into production on the field.
