The Houston Texans are making moves in free agency. It is inspiring some to believe that other big moves could be on the table.
For Houston, most of their additions have been on the defensive side of the football. With that, it seems evident that the Texans' priorities center around maintaining a league best defense in 2026. That said, it's possible the team now looks to offense after shoring up the defensive side.
One Texans analyst discussed the possibility that the team will sign now free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs. He doesn't seem convinced it's a great possibility.
Jared Koch of Houston Texans on SI discussed why it probably is not likely that the Texans sign the talented receiver.
"Any team would also likely have to invest a decent contract number in Diggs, even if for a short-term deal, considering he's coming off a season where he was still a starting-caliber pass-catcher at age 32, and the leader in yards for an offense that almost hosted a league MVP in Drake Maye. ...
The Texans' wide receiver room for next year sets up to be even better than what was hosted last year without an acquisition of Diggs. They'll be rolling out Nico Collins with Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel in their second seasons, a healthy Tank Dell, along with a strong depth option in Xavier Hutchinson.
Houston will also have the draft to consider taking another pass-catcher on the second or third day, thus further boosting the depth in terms of their offensive weapons and preventing them from investing any major money in wide receiver."
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (left) and wide receiver Stefon Diggs (8) talk before Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium. Darren Yamashita-Imagn ImagesWhether or not the Texans can make the move work financially is up for debate, but he certainly would help the Houston offense. That said, Houston may need more help on the offensive line than they need for the receiver room as Koch notes.
Higgins and Noel make for a solid compliment to star wide receiver Nico Colins. With those pieces in place, it's likely the Texans will have plenty of playmakers at receiver alongside star running back David Montgomery.
Where Diggs goes will be interesting to watch over the next few weeks. If not the Texans, it's unclear where the talented player will go.
What is clear is that Houston is set up for a competitive run at the AFC South division title in 2026. They will look to make the finishing touches on their roster over March and April.
