Texans target offensive line talent with massive upside. This raw, athletic prospect could redefine Houston's front for years to come.
The Houston Texans are a team who seem to have a clear weakness that should be addressed in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and that weakness comes on the offensive line. The franchise went out and made some impressive signings during free agency, like Wyatt Teller and Braden Smith, but both of those players signed two-year deals, and they are both nearing the end of their careers. It is important that Houston gets younger on the offensive line, and drafting a player in the first round would make complete sense.
One of the more respected NFL insiders and analysts is Peter Schrager of ESPN. He is considered one of the more tapped-in reporters in the NFL, and he just wrapped up time with a ton of coaches and executives at the league's annual meetings in Arizona. He spoke with sources, coaches, executives, and he put together a mock draft for ESPN based off of what he has heard throughout the pre-draft process and from the league meetings.
Schrager has Houston sticking with the 28th overall pick, despite there being constant chatter about a potential trade. He has the Texans selecting offensive lineman Max Iheanachor out of Arizona State, "One of the players with the biggest upside in this class, Iheanachor is still relatively new to football. The Nigerian-born tackle got to the United States when he was 13 years old and picked up the sport in just the past few years. Still growing and learning, he could be a home run pick if a team is patient and capitalizes on his upside. Houston is always looking for talent on its O-line as the front office works through another makeover of the unit."
Iheanachor is an interesting prospect. He was born in Nigeria, and he moved to the States when he was 13. He didn't start playing football until college, when he joined the roster at East Los Angeles College, a junior college. He spent two seasons there before being recruited to Arizona State. The fact that he is so young in his football journey and being considered to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft is something, and it shows that he can become something even greater.
The upside is certainly intriguing with Iheanachor, and he could be a good player to draft and have sit for most of the season. This would allow him to develop his skills a little bit while sitting behind a seasoned veteran like Smith or Trent Brown, whoever ends up being the right tackle.
