Houston Texans Roundup: Tennessee Titans To Interview Dino Vasso cover image

Titans request to interview Texans' defensive architect Dino Vasso. His transformative secondary unit is the coveted "secret sauce" they desperately need.

It was only a matter of time. When you build a "no-fly zone" in the heart of Texas, the rest of the league is going to come looking for the blueprint. But seeing the Tennessee Titans, of all teams, knock on the door for our Defensive Backs coach Dino Vasso? That’s a pill that’s a little tough to swallow. But, what do you expect in the offseason.

According to a report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the Titans have requested to interview Vasso for their vacant Defensive Coordinator position under new head coach Robert Saleh. From a purely objective standpoint, it makes sense. From a Texans perspective, it’s a direct threat to the culture DeMeco Ryans has spent three years perfecting.

The Vasso Impact: More Than Just a Position Coach

Since Vasso arrived in Houston in 2021, the transformation of our secondary hasn't just been "good"—it’s been the backbone of our identity.

  • The Stingley Factor: Under Vasso’s tutelage, Derek Stingley Jr. hasn't just met his draft pedigree, he’s surpassed it. Becoming an All-Pro isn't just about raw talent; it’s about the technique and discipline Vasso instilled.
  • The Next Wave: Look at Kamari Lassiter. A Pro Bowl alternate as a young corner? That doesn't happen by accident. Vasso has a knack for taking high-upside rookies and turning them into polished, NFL-ready starters before the end of their first training camp.
  • Safety Versatility: He’s the reason Jalen Pitre and Calen Bullock look like they’re playing chess while the opposing quarterbacks are playing checkers.

Why the Titans? Why Now?

The timing is what stings. The Titans are currently in a state of total reinvention. They’ve got a new GM in Mike Borgonzi, a new "defensive mastermind" in Robert Saleh, and a young QB in Cam Ward they’re trying to support with a dominant defense.

They’ve seen Vasso twice a year. They know exactly how he took a unit that was once a liability and turned it into a group that makes AFC South quarterbacks wake up in a cold sweat. By targeting Vasso, the Titans aren't just looking for a DC, they’re looking to steal the "secret sauce" from their biggest rival.

The Possibility

Losing a coach to a coordinator spot is the "tax" of being a successful team. It’s a sign that Nick Caserio and DeMeco Ryans have built something worth replicating.

But losing Vasso to Nashville? That would be a massive blow. Vasso is the guy who keeps the lid on the defense. He’s the guy who has turned our secondary into a factory of Pro Bowl talent. If he heads to Tennessee, the Titans don't just get a play-caller, they get the keys to the most improved unit in our division.
