Newsweek Predicts Texans to Win AFC South cover image

Newsweek forecasts a stunning Texans comeback, highlighting their impressive streak and playoff-contender wins, positioning them for AFC South glory.

If you're looking for red, white and navy Kool Aid, Newsweek provided it this week. The site predicted that the Houston Texans would pull off a come from behind victory to secure the AFC South division title.

Houston has been one of top teams in the NFL for several weeks since a slow start put the team behind the eight ball. Newsweek Tyler Everett took notice and wrote the following.

"The Texans are 7-2 since their 0-3 start and riding a four-game winning streak into Week 14. Their recent form is even more impressive given who they've played over the last nine weeks. The Texans boast wins in that stretch over five teams that are playoff contenders: Baltimore, San Francisco, Jacksonville, Buffalo and Indianapolis. And their losses came by a total of 10 points against the 9-3 Seahawks and the 10-2 Broncos."

The Texans' resume speaks for itself. Four consecutive wins including back-to-back impressive victories over the Josh Allen-led Buffalo Bills and the high flying Indianapolis Colts. Everett discussed how everything is coming all together for Houston at the right time.

"It would be an understatement to call this defense a known commodity, and the offense is finally trending in the right direction now that Stroud is back (for now, I'm not willing to say much more than that about this offense).

The Texans also have a manageable schedule down the stretch, with matchups against the Cardinals, Raiders, Chargers and Colts."

According to Everett, Houston needs to continue its winning ways this week to have a legitimate shot at the division title. He urged the importance of taking care of business in the pivotal playoff-level matchup.

"(The Texans) would likely need to win out if they're unable to upset the Chiefs on Sunday night, but if that one goes the way I expect it to, the Texans' odds to win the AFC South will look very different by Monday morning."

The Chiefs game is not a season ending game, but it's all but a must-win game with the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars already ahead of the team. The Texans need to be within a game of the Colts and defeat them a second time to have a real shot at winning the division. Even so, at least one Newsweek writer thinks it is possible.

Houston will look to have its best game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
