The Houston Texans are making waves so far this March. One NFL analyst is not liking all the deals the team has made.
Ben Straus of Clutch Points contends the Texans might have overprioritized the edge rusher position relative to what they will get from their free agent signings. He explained why it might have been a mistake.
"The Texans brought in former Buccaneers defender Logan Hall on a two-year contract worth $14 million. They double down at adding depth, signing former Bear Dominique Robinson to a one-year deal.
On the face of it, adding depth on top of a strength should hardly qualify as a mistake. But I see it as Houston not properly allocating their resources during a crucial offseason.
The Texans already have young superstar Will Anderson Jr. and veteran Danielle Hunter holding down the edges. In fact, the Texans just gave Hunter a whopping $40.1 million extension just before free agency. Anderson is set to receive a long-term extension himself, so the position is clearly in good hands.
Ultimately, my question is about how much the Texans spent on Hall and Robinson compared to what they will get from them."

David Banks-Imagn ImagesIt's difficult to say that all the Texans' offseason moves have been high value. Certainly, spending $14 million on Hall when the team already has solid starters on the edge is not easily explained away. Add in that the team added another edge in Robinson and it seems like the Texans might be overprioritizing a strength when they have a weakness.
Houston has still addressed some weaknesses, too. The team added or re-signed four offensive linemen, all of which could start for the team in 2026. That shores up a glaring flaw from the team's last campaign. It gives star quarterback C.J. Stroud the ability to make more plays.
The Texans also re-signed Dalton Schultz and added an additional tight end in Foster Moreau to reinforce the position. Add in the fact the Houston traded for an impact running back in David Montgomery and it's hard to say the team neglected any offensive position with the receiver room already set. That said, if looking strictly at value, some will certainly question why the team would make those moves.
There is an upside to the moves. In adding Hall and Robinson the drop off when resting Hunter and Anderson will be mitigated. We'll see if the moves turn out well or the Texans regret them next season.
