With top stars from the Titans, Colts, and Jaguars hitting the trade block, Houston’s rivals could strip their rosters of veteran talent to fuel a mid-season rebuild.
The Houston Texans have already made one of the biggest moves of the NFL season by acquiring wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., but they could soon see some of the AFC South's other top talents leave the division as the trade deadline approaches.
In an Oct. 22 report for The Athletic, the NFL trade deadline board highlighted several notable players who could be available before teams must finalize their decisions. The most interesting detail for Houston is the concentration of talent within its own division, with the top four players on the board all coming from the AFC South.
That could create a significant shift in the division's competitive landscape, particularly if struggling teams decide to move established players in exchange for draft capital and future assets.
The Tennessee Titans are among the teams with the most reason to consider selling. With the franchise still working to establish a consistent foundation, moving veteran talent for future draft picks could make sense. Running back Tony Pollard is one name who could draw interest from contenders looking to strengthen their backfields for the second half of the season.
The Indianapolis Colts could also face difficult decisions depending on how their season unfolds. For teams outside the playoff picture, the deadline represents an opportunity to turn current assets into resources that can help build a stronger roster in the coming years.
Jacksonville could be the most intriguing case, as wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has emerged as a potential trade candidate. The former first-round pick was a Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2024, recording 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. However, his role has diminished significantly, and his lack of production has fueled speculation that the Jaguars could move him before the deadline.
For the Texans, that possibility is particularly notable after they recently acquired Harrison from the Arizona Cardinals. Houston has already shown a willingness to make an aggressive move for a young receiver with considerable upside, and Jacksonville could now see another team in the league be willing to take a similar swing.
The AFC South's potential talent drain extends beyond Jacksonville. Tennessee could move veteran pieces as it continues rebuilding, while Indianapolis may reconsider its roster direction after parting ways with general manager Chris Ballard. Those decisions could put additional established players on the market, giving contenders around the league opportunities to strengthen their rosters.
Of course, none of these moves are guaranteed, and Jacksonville remains extremely competitive and trading Thomas would be a significant decision. Still, the possibility of multiple AFC South players changing teams makes the coming weeks important for the division.
Houston has already made its own statement with the Harrison trade. If rival teams follow by shipping out key contributors, the Texans could find themselves facing a very different group of opponents down the stretch.
With the Nov. 10 deadline approaching, the AFC South could be one of the divisions most affected by the NFL's trade market. For a Texans team looking to build momentum and compete for the division title, the next few weeks could bring changes that extend well beyond Houston's own roster.
